  1. Last I checked, babies aren’t having sex.
How about we teach young people to use condoms and get tested…NOT cut their genitals?

  2. Question, what does the decision of an adult man undergoing circumcision because he believes he will be protected from AIDS when having wild crazy sex have to do with forcibly circumcising a healthy, non-consenting, sexually inactive child? Wasn’t circumcision supposed to be “voluntary?” Putting the picture of a child being forcibly mutilated in this story is completely misleading and despicably inappropriate. You ought to be ashamed of yourself.

  3. According to USAID, “there appears no clear pattern of association between male circumcision and HIV prevalence—in 8 of 18 countries with data, HIV prevalence is lower among circumcised men, while in the remaining 10 countries it is higher.”

“Conclusions: We find a protective effect of circumcision in only one of the eight countries for which there are nationally-representative HIV seroprevalence data. The results are important in considering the development of circumcision-focused interventions within AIDS prevention programs.”

Results: …No consistent relationship between male circumcision and HIV risk was observed in most countries.

Better check those “studies” again. There is no demonstrable causal link between circumcision and a reduction in HIV transmission. The “60%” figure is an exaggerated number taken from a very small, very select group of men in a very questionable study. The CIA factbook tells us that, despite having a male population that is 80% circumcised, the United States has a higher HIV prevalence rate than 53 countries where circumcision is rare (e.g. below 20%). The “protection” of circumcision against HIV is simply not observed in real world data.

  5. Joseph Gabb Oh really? I’ll buy a circumcised man a hooker and he can nail her without a condom because mutilating a newborn man’s genitals without HIS consent hours after him coming out of his mothers womb may prevent HIV. No wonder America has the most STD’S including HIV in the world. Only a Mohel or an $$$American DR$$ could tell such a dangerous lie. Why not study mutilated American men? Why are these controlled studies done in the poorest places in Africa and shipped back to the US? We have plenty of mutilated men right here in the #1 country

Please dont spread misinformation. It does not reduce the risk. The studies in africa were proven to be flawed.

  7. No it doesn’t. US has the largest population of Circumcisions and the highest HIV rate in the Western world.

Circumcision has done me no favors! I have had bleeding abrasions from intercourse that a foreskin would have prevented. These abrasions have made me leery of having sex with my wife. Without the mechanical lubrication provided by a foreskin, I have to use artificial lubricant or sex would be painful for my wife and I. My parent’s chose this painful and unsatisfactory sex life for me and my wife and I simply cannot fathom why. I would never have chosen to have my foreskin removed. Only 1/16,667 intact males will have a problem with their foreskin, 99% of which can be treated with medicine not surgery. 117 babies die from circumcision a year in the US that is 9/100,000 babies that die each year from a cosmetic surgery. Men have lost their penis, glans, and suffered from deformity caused by the operation. It isn’t right that these children pay the price for a decision their parents made, a decision that should be left up to the owner of the penis. Even those who survive still have problems like mine, though they are seldom discussed.

  8. That is a ridiculous claim… nonsense. Cutting off and removing a healthy, essential body part does not such thing as reduce the risk of anything.
